Directions to the Bottom of the Ocean is a novel that imagines the final days of Mizzi Caspar, a one-time artists’ model and dancer, as she faces her imminent death in fin-de-siècle Vienna — the city once described by satirist Karl Kraus as "the laboratory of the apocalypse."
